The Society of Editors Regional Press Awards for 2013 judged the work of regional and local newspapers published between 1 January and 31 December 2013.

Held in association with HoldTheFrontPage and the Press Association the Society of Editors, which has been supported by Camelot since 2001, organises the awards in conjunction with the Newspaper Society on behalf of the industry.

The Oscars-style lunchtime awards ceremony took place at the Lancaster London hotel on Friday 16 May.

The awards, also supported by ASDA, will celebrate regional and local journalism in print and on corresponding digital platforms. Digital awards have been increased to three with the addition of a Blog of the Year category.

Society of Editors Executive director, Bob Satchwell, said: “Once again we are delighted to be hosting the main awards ceremony honouring the diverse array of regional and local newspaper journalism that is so highly regarded up and down the the UK.

“Last year’s entries showed, yet again, the value that regional and local newspapers bring to their communities and we look forward to reading the amazing range of campaigns, investigations and quality journalism that makes so much difference to the lives of their readers.”

The awards process celebrates the quality, diversity and success of regional newspaper journalism in the country. Alongside the National Press Awards, the Regional Press Awards process culminates in the most prestigious event in the industry's calendar, the Awards Ceremony where winners and their editors and colleagues celebrate in style among their peers.

The Society of Editors represents more than 400 members in national, regional and local newspapers, magazines, broadcasting, digital media, media law and journalism education and campaigns for media freedom, freedom of expression and the public’s right to know.
