RPA 2012

THE Regional Press Awards celebrate the best of British regional newspaper journalism.

The Society of Editors Regional Press Awards for 2012 judged the work of regional and local newspapers published between 1 January and 31 December 2012.

The Regional Press Awards are organised on behalf of the industry by the Society of Editors with the support of the Newspaper Society. Revenue is generated by entry fees, table sales and sponsorship. The surplus is donated to the Journalists’ Charity. The Society of Editors Regional Press Awards are made possible by the lead sponsorship of UK Power Networks. They are supported by Asda and Foot Anstey solicitors and are held in association with HoldTheFrontPage and the Press Association.

The Oscars-style lunchtime awards ceremony was held at the Savoy Place, just off the Embankment, London, 2 Savoy Place, London, WC2R OBL on 17 May

Society of Editors executive director Bob Satchwell who oversees the awards said: “We are again pleased to help celebrate the brilliant journalism in local and regional newspapers which provides a terrific service to communities across the UK against a difficult economic background.”

The awards process celebrates the quality, diversity and success of regional newspaper journalism in the country.

Alongside the National Press Awards the Regional Press Awards process culminates in the most prestigious event in the industry's calendar, the Awards Ceremony where winners and their editors and colleagues celebrate in style among their peers.

The Society of Editors represents more than 400 members in national, regional and local newspapers, magazines, broadcasting, digital media, media law and journalism education and campaigns for media freedom, freedom of expression and the public’s right to know.
